I have the honour to inform you
that it was recently discovered that Dr. Jew Hawk, Resident
Surgeon at the Tung Wa Hospital and a Member of the Govern-
-mont Medical Department, undertook private practice among
the families of the Directors of the Hospital. It appears
irregularly by the
that an arrangement was come to
Directors and Dr. Jew Hawk some 2 years ago by which he
might accept fees for such practice if called in for pro-
-fessional advice. On Dr. Jew Hawk being told that he was
not entitled to such private practice he tendered his
resignation as he said he could not support himself and
his family on his present salary. The Directors of the
Hospital have intervened on his behalf and asked that
his salary be increased and that he be allowed private
practice to an unlimited extent. In view of the fact
